Question by jenjenferfer010: which of the following processes/procedures does not involve any nucleic acid hybridization?
a. separation of fragments by gel electrophoresis
b. Southern blotting
c. polymerase chain reaction
d. DNA fingerprinting
e. DNA microarray assay
Best answer:
Answer by James W
a – all you’re doing is chopping DNA up and then pulling the fragments thru a gel
b & c require a hybridization step
d requires C
e has a hybridization step

Question by aris1903: Which of the following techniques is used to amplify a specific fragment of the genome in order to produce?
enough DNA for adequate characterization?
1. diffusion discs
2. gel electrophoresis
3. PCR (polymerase chain reaction)
4. sterile technique
Best answer:
Answer by UW Senior Genetics Major
1. diffusion discs are used when testing the strength of detergents, antibiotics, etc. on bacteria
2. gel electrophoresis is used to seperate DNA by size for analysis
3. PCR is used to take a small sample of DNA and make many, many copies of it.
4. Sterile technique is used to keep contamination out of an experiment.
(You figure out which one it is)
